Mountaineering needs for glaciological observations in the Himalaya and Antarctica

Dr Bhanu Pratap has been into more than 20 Scientific Expeditions to Glaciers of the Western , Central and Nepal Himalayas. He was also part of 3 Indian Sceintific Expeditions to Antarctica. He has various Field Survey Skills like Ice Radar operation, surveying with DGPS, phase sensitive radar deployment and analysis of ice thickness and basal melting, meteorological station (AWS) set-up, geo- morphological mapping, sampling techniques for snow/ice density measurement, stake networking for glaciers mass balance and real time crevasse radar operation with field safety training, and operation of vehicles. He is actively involved in various Scientific Journal as reviewer like Annals of Glaciology, Arctic Antarctic and Alpine Research, Progress in Physical Geography, Geocarto-International, IEEE JSTARS, Environmental Processes, JESS.

Vulnerability of Himalayan regions towards Climate Chnage : A case study of Jammu and Kashmir, India

Currently working as a Geospatial Scientist in the Department of Environment and Remote sensing , J&K Govt. He has worked as Research Assistant, Image Analyst, RS-GIS expert since 2005 in Department of Environment and Remote Sensing, Government of J&K. He is also a Columnist in various newspapers. He has been awarded as Young Scientist 2010 by J&K Academy of Science and the National e-Governance Award (Innovative Use of Technology) 2012-2013 by the Government of India.

Currently working as a Young Scientist Fellow in the Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing, Government of J&K. He has also worked as a Consultant with the World Bank and has been actively involved as a reviewer in various journals like Springer, Elsevier, Taylor & Francis. He has worked in various Govt. sponsored projects under UGC DST, NRSC, ISRO, MOEF, JKSPDC. Has also participated in Professional training on GIS , GPS, Capacity building programmes on Himalayan Glaciers.
